International Park of Greater Toledo will host Light The Way,
a not-for-profit foundation to raise awareness and funds for Toledo residents
who have been or will be touched by breast cancer. |
|
Light The Way will raise funds for the cause by lighting two
Christmas trees (The Trees of Life) in International Park with light bulbs sponsored
by the public.
Light The Way is the creation of breast cancer survivor and
Toledo native, Susan G. Botek, who was diagnosed with the disease 10 years ago.
"As a lifelong resident, I am very proud to request that Toledo be the jumping
off point of an organization that I believe can become a nationwide event." This
year is the beginning of the new campaign which starts in Toledo. "After
helping raise thousands of dollars over the past ten years for breast [cancer]
programs and knowing that I could do more, the Light The Way public 501 (c) (3)
foundation was created," stated Ms. Botek. "Breast cancer is the number
one killer of women ages 35 to 54. We are committed to raising funds for this
segment of women in our area and distributing the dollars to the organizations
in Northwest Ohio." The goal; to help increase the
funds available for educational programs, to increase breast health awareness
and to aid in the battle to decrease the needless deaths from this killer disease.
The focus is on the working families that are falling through the cracks of the
system with little or no insurance for screening. The Trees
of Life will serve as a reminder of hope for our community. For more information
on how you can sponsor a bulb, contact Susan G. Botek, President and Founder of
Light The Way at (419) 244-1811. Cards will be printed for the purchaser of the
light to send to a friend to tell them that a light has been lit for them. The
strands of lights will be strung weekly.
With your help, we can Light The Way to a better quality of life in Northwest
Ohio. |
